New Church Position Established ” Pastor’s Assistant “
By Elder Shirlene Imperial

The Session is pleased to announce that an important step toward our vision to grow and expand our programs and worship services as outlined in our recently approved Ministry Platform and Goals has been taken. With great pleasure the Session welcomes Reverend Linda Rainey as the Pastor’s Assistant for Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church. Rev. Rainey is a familiar face for our congregation as she has been involved in the little church with the big heart for quite a few years now. Most recently, she has served as our Youth Director and we have seen that group flourish and become actively engaged in our church and community. As Pastor’s Assistant, Rev. Rainey will work to provide worship and Christian education opportunities that will appeal to a cross section of members and families and increase membership while maintaining our sense of a close-knit church family. We will see her working with programming, increasing membership, conducting youth activities, maintaining office hours, and coming to the pulpit as needed. The Session knows you will join us in extending the warmth of our Christian fellowship to Linda as she takes on new role in the life and ministry of Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church.

Building Committee Update

                                                                                                                  by Billy Garrington

Well in a few more days it will be December 1st and the new sanctuary is almost completely weathered-in all except the windows and doors and they should be arriving in the coming weeks. The brick work is being completed, the plumbing is being roughed-in as well as the electrical and many of the mechanical units are on the ground ready to be installed. The interior finishes will not be installed until the rough-ins are all complete and inspections are approved.

There is still a lot of site work that needs to be installed particularly the circle in front of the Sanctuary. The stone base needs to be installed and ample time given for it to be compacted before any new asphalt can be installed. The coming months are not well suitable for doing this type of work but we will just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for some dry weather to allow all of these items to be completed in early 2006.

I can not say when it will be completed but it will be sooner than later and we have been waiting many years for this to happen.
A couple more weeks will not dampen how exciting it is going to be when we hold our first service in the new facility. If it was easy it would have happened long before now.

I thank everyone for continuing to be patient and for their continued prayers and support for this new Sanctuary..

Nursery Update
by Dean George

The joy of being a part of a child’s first year is a great experience! It has been so much fun watching little Mary Ruffin change from being an adorable, sleepy infant to being a curious, constantly moving seven month old bundle of energy. Join in the fun and volunteer to be a Nursery worker once a month. It usually involves being in the nursery from the beginning of the morning prayer (or offering) to the end of the worship service.
As our membership grows, we anticipate that there will be more infants and toddlers in our nursery. To accommodate their needs, we are in the process of updating the furniture to include new cribs and a changing table. We already have a very nice port-a-crib (thanks to Terry Restin) as well as high chairs, play stations, and a swing (purchased when Kevin, Katelyn, and Kamryn were infants and toddlers).

If you are interested in helping in the nursery, please see Dean George or Jamie Ambrose.

Building Fund Report
by Gerry Faircloth

The response for help with the purchase of  furnishings for the new sanctuary has been overwhelming.  Most of the pews, both pianos, the tables, the pulpit and many Bibles and Hymnals have been covered.  There are many items remaining, such as Bibles, Hymnals and Chairs ranging in value from  $20 to $600 each.  There is also a $38,000 Allen Organ for that generous person who has been especially well blessed this year. Over $10,000 has been received for these items, and much more has been pledged.

Children’s Church
by Elder Woody Brooks

We will resume Children’s Church during the 11:00 o’clock worship service beginning November 27th. Children’s Church is for kids in grades 1 through 4, and will be a structured time during the Worship Service that they can attend in the activity room with one of our Children’s Church teachers. Unlike the past, there will not be a Children’s Sermon given in the sanctuary. Instead, the children will go directly to the activity room with the teacher (normally before the second hymn). The Children’s Church lessons and activities will be designed to help children understand the parts of the Worship Service, a children’s version of the pastor’s sermon, or some other relevant subject that will help the children to grow in their faith and prepare them for participation in the entire regular Worship Service. We have a very fine group of folks who have volunteered to teach (Jaime Ambrose, Mary Lou Ambrose, Amber Gallob, Shirlene Imperial, Dixie Lehman, Darlene Paxson, Linda Rainey, and Debbie Shepard).
Please tell your friends and family members that are hesitant to bring their young children to church that we will be ready to accommodate them with this program.
If you would like to be a Children’s Church teacher, or helper, or have questions about Children’s Church, please contact Woody Brooks.

Come Join Us For Sunday School
by Dixie Lehman

Sunday School at Lynnhaven Presbyterian is an empowering ministry experience for children and adults. Although classes begin at 9:45 am each Sunday morning, come a few minutes early so that you can grab a doughnut and a cup of coffee, share a moment or two with friends, and feel the warmth of the Little Church with the Big Heart. From the nursery/preschool class to the very popular adult class, the teachers are dedicated to nurturing our spiritual needs and helping us grow in our knowledge and understanding of God’s word. The preschool through early elementary classes begin their Sunday School time with music, learning the songs of Jesus that seem to stay with us forever. Using role plays, crafts, and other hands-on activities, their classes focus on our favorite Bible stories, people, how God shows his love, and how we should live our lives. You’ll find them in the nursery and the upstairs Primary room. At this time, the Teens are engaged in Adult Basic Training, learning how to put their Christian faith to work to successfully handle the expectations of parents, the demands of school, and the pressure from peers. The Young Adult Class is currently studying the Purpose Driven Life, a 40 day journey to discover your personal life mission. The Adult class has begun an in-depth look at the teachings and lives of the disciples. This interactive class makes connections between faith and our daily lives. You don’t go away from this class without some introspection. The Good News is – anyone can attend these groups! Come join us this Sunday.
