Dear Members of the Lynnhaven Family,
I write this column on a morning when I have been working on the  sermon – “NEVER RUN FROM PAIN.” Most of us can agree that those pains which stab at our hearts and weigh heavily on our minds are often more aggravating than the bodily pains which we bear.  At one time or another most of us will feel a close kinship with that Old Testament character, Job, made famous because of his extraordinary suffering.

“Man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward,”

he said.  (Job 5:7)  We all know that trouble goes with life. Someone has said that “to be is to be in some kind of trouble.”  To be is to encounter some form of pain.  “No pain – no gain” the old saying goes.  In the midst of his memorable wrestling match by the Jabbok Jacob told his adversary:  “I will not let you go, unless you bless me.”  (Genesis 32:26)

In the midst of those inevitable pains which intrude into our lives if we ask the question “What is God trying to say to me in this situation?” we will often find that God’s blessings await us and we will know what St. Paul knew when he wrote:  “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  (II Corinthians 12:9)

May God’s grace be sufficient for us all in the midst of life’s pains and troubles.

Your pastor and friend,
Scottie Griffin,
Invite a family member or friend to come to worship on a Saturday evening, Sunday morning, or to any of our activities or programs. Let them experience what life in the “Little Church with the Big Heart” is all about.

The church office is open from 9:00 A.M. until Noon, Monday through Friday. If you wish to speak to the pastor about any matter you are invited to make an appointment during these hours. The door is always open to those who wish to drop in for a few minutes. Appointments are encouraged for those who wish to make sure that the pastor will be available when they come.
