Dr. J. Scottie Griffin
Scottie was the youngest of five children and the first son born to J.P. and Shirley Griffin in Brownwood, Texas. He was
dedicated to the service of the Lord by his godly mother, who hoped and prayed that her son would someday become a minister. The church was a vital part of his life from his earliest days.
He responded to the invitation to consider committing his life to full-time Christian service at a Senior High Youth
Camp at Buffalo Gap, Texas. Summer Youth Camp was a vital part of each summer’s life during Jr. High and High School years. From early teen years his future was set and the only career he ever wanted was that of a Pastor.
After graduation from Texas Christian University and Princeton Theological Seminary he was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister in 1960. He served Presbyterian congregations in Philadelphia, PA; Wilmington, Delaware; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Scarsdale, New York; and Virginia Beach, Virginia.
His love for preaching has kept him from fully retiring. He has served Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church, the oldest Presbyterian Congregation in Virginia Beach, as Stated Supply Pastor for the past 10 years where he and his family are respected and loved.
Dr. Griffin and his wife Rosemary, who celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary in August 2009, are residents of
Westminster Canterbury, a retirement community in Virginia Beach. They are the proud parents of two daughters who live in the Hampton Roads area and a son who lives in Charlottesville, and the grandparents of nine.
